2 Honest Whore – Introduction

Shortly after the performance of “The Honest Whore, part one” Dekker commenced work on Part Two.  It is not known why Middleton did not choose to continue the story himself.

The 1630 quarto

In Part One the key scene was the one in which Hippolito speaks with Bellafront and convinces her of the error of her ways.  Part Two shows us a reversal of that motif.  In Act Four, scene one a reversal of the first play’s scene occurs when a despondent Hippoloto attempts to urge Bellafront back to her former position.
